This one day tutorial is a must have for anyone who wants to get up to speed with Qt programming. It is held by Matthias Kalle Dalheimer and Jesper K. Pedersen, who both have the experience of more than 25 one week long Qt courses behind them, as well as many years of active programming.

The tutorial will teach you the fundamental things about Qt that are most important to get right in order to get the most out of Qt.

Jesper explains: "The course we give normally takes people from nothing to masters in five days. This is pretty much an achievement given how large Qt is nowadays. This tutorial will be a boiled down version of what you would see in the first two days of our one week course." and he continues "When I do courses there are always people among the participants who haven't learned how to spell Qt yet, but also people who already feel like masters. I usually challenge the latter, posing them some questions before we start, and ask them to revisit their answers after the first day. The reaction is always the same, namely that people will be surprised how much more they understand Qt after just this one day."

The tutorial will include these topics:

  • Parent/child relation ship - Qt's way of handling ownership of objects
  • Linking user interactions to Application functionality (aka signal/slots and event models)
  • A whirl wind tour through Qt functionality - this will give you an overview of what kind of classes there are in Qt
  • An introduction to layout management
  • An introduction to Qt designer

About the instructors:

Jesper K. Pedersen has worked for the past 4 years for Klarälvdalens Datakonsult AB. Amongst others things, there he developed the official Qt course material for Trolltech. This tutorial is an extract of a course, which normally last 1 week. Jesper has tought this course 25 times. Jesper's claim to fame in KDE are two very well rated applications: the Regular Expression Editor, and the KDE Image Database (aka. KimDaBa).

Kalle Matthias Dalheimer is CEO of Klarälvdalens Datakonsult AB and Chairman of KDE e.V. Many years back (even before KDE was founded) he was the man who initially ported StarOffice from Windows to the Unix platform. Later he was one of the instrumental key persons who founded and developed KDE and made it the success it is today.
