In this presentation a brief background on Trolltech's early history will be given. This talk will also explain the origins of Qt and reveal a few unknown secrets about how Trolltch and Qt came to be.

The original design philosophy behind Qt will be covered and we also discuss how library developers must take a very different approach to development than application developers,

Finally we look at how KDE has influenced Trolltech over the years and how immensely important the project has been for Trolltech. Discuss I will also mention Trolltech's current status and our current Qt work.

Eirik Chambe-Eng

Eirik Chambe-Eng co-founded Trolltech (www.trolltech.com) with Haavard Nord in 1994, after starting the development of Qt, Trolltech's cross-platform toolkit. Since its inception, Trolltech has experienced a decade of continuous growth - financial and head-count - and Eirik's contribution to this has primarily been through setting strategic direction and overseeing the company's operations.

Eirik has long experience in software research, development, and management. He serves on the board of a few Norwegian software companies, and the board of the charitable Trolltech Foundation. Eirik graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology with an M.Sc. in Computer Science. He lives in Oslo with his wife and children.
