What if developers can ask for usability advise when they are coding or designing interfaces? Without delay, without "filling out forms". Just ask for opinions or advice. The playground is exactly for this - as an additional "service" for the hack fest. There will be some usability guys who answer questions on the fly - if it is possible. If not possible, they will at least tell you why it is difficult and needs some more thoughts or tests.
The benefit for the usability experts is that they can learn what kind of answers open source developers need.
During these days, there will be one or more people sitting around, clearly visible. Whenever you have a question, a suggestion or some sketches or ideas, just go asking them.
